Three Basketball players from the Fanshawe Falcons got recognition as being Fanshawe’s athletes of the week with one of them even being an OCAA athlete of the week.
Those players are:
Layla Mackenzie
Mackenzie was one of Fanshawe’s athletes of the week after helping the women’s Basketball team secure two 30+ point victories.
In her first game of the week against the Niagara Knights she was able to have a 17 point outing which included 2-5 from the three point line.
In the following game against the Redeemer Royals she filled the stat sheet with Mackenzie having 15 points while adding 4 rebounds 4 steals and 3 assists. Mackenzie worked hard in the offseason with her going from 10.6 points per game last season to 15 this season.
Mackenzie says her game has improved a lot with her “getting a lot stronger especially when it comes to finishing at the rim. I think I’ve also gotten a lot smarter at looking at reads, using my teammates effectively and just waiting for opportunities to come instead of trying to force anything.”
Mackenzie was also the OCAA women’s Basketball west division sixth woman of the year winner.
Da’Marion Ennis
Ennis was the other Fanshawe athlete of the week with him being a key contributor in the Falcons strong defensive effort against the Niagara Knights.
Then during the game against the Redeemer Royals he had an outstanding performance finishing the game off with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.
Ennis is hoping that this award will help him get back to the way he was last year. “It’s just the mentally and everything. Last year I was a double-double machine and I’m trying to get back to that.”
Ennis was also on the OCAA men’s Basketball west division all-rookie team last year.
Ashlyn Anderson
Anderson is the player who was named the OCAA athlete of the week for women’s basketball.
Anderson had a strong showing this week with her securing game highs in each of her games with 22 points and 16 rebounds against the Niagara Knights and 16 points and 7 rebounds against the Redeemer Royals.
With her securing another double-double in the game against the Knights she now sits at 5 of them on the season.
Anderson was busy during the offseason saying “I definitely stayed consistent in the Gym. I stayed here in London for the summer just so I can get more shots up and so I could hit the weight room just to make sure that I’m stronger for this season.”
Anderson was also named the OCAA women’s Basketball west division rookie of the year winner.
