The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) started all the way back on November 12th 1993 with the events being pay-per-view (PPV)
PPV events are a service that enables a viewer to pay to watch specific events. Boxing for an example have a lot of PPV events.
Just months ago, it was announced that the streaming giant Paramount went out and acquired the UFC rights on a 7 year $7.7 billion deal.
On December 6th the UFC had their last PPV event which was UFC 323. The card seen two new champions be crowned. Petr Yan defeated Merab Dvalishvili with a unanimous decision to secure the Bantamweight championship belt.
And Joshua Van defeated Alexandre Pantoja due to a gruesome arm injury that Pantoja suffered to give Van the Flyweight championship belt.
During the event it was announced that the streaming service Paramount + won’t have just the UFC events as they are also getting the rights to UFC’s shows such as “Dana White’s Contender Series” & “The Ultimate Fighter”
Former UFC title challenger Mark Hominick, who fought UFC legends such as Jose Aldo & Jung Chan-Sung (also known as the Korean Zombie) says he is happy that the UFC is now on an actual streaming service as a lot of people would pirate them before.
Hominick also mentions that he expected the UFC to follow what the WWE did. “I thought they’d be going to Netflix as the parent company Edeavor.
The first event of the new partnership begins on Saturday, January 24th where UFC 324 gets underway with there being two championship belts on the line with Justin Gaethje fighting Paddy Pimblett for the Interim Lightweight title belt and Kayla Harrison defending the women’s Bantamweight title belt against legend Amanda Nunes.
Both fights have a lot riding on them as Nunes just came out of a 2 year retirement for this fight and the Interim Lightweight belt is getting fought for because champion Ilia Topuria is tending to a personal situation which has him focusing on his children and family matters.
Topuria announced he won’t be fighting in the first quarter of 2026 which is January-March.
