Lord Elgin Public School in London will be receiving a generous donation of breakfast kits from Metro Ontario this holiday season.
The school was selected through the Ontario Student Nutrition Program (OSNP), one of its main partners in providing daily meals for students.
“One of our main donors for our breakfast program, so they, we were selected, our school was selected by Metro,” said Kimberly Hawkins, the educational assistant at Lord Elgin Public School.
Metro is donating 350 kits for students.

These kits will have nutritious food and some treats that families can enjoy over the holiday break.
“The one main goal of Lord Elgin Public School is we ensure that the students begin their day with a nutritious meal and maintain throughout the day,” said Hawkins.
“So, we offer breakfast in the morning, we have a breakfast club and we have bagels, toast, cereal, oatmeal, a fruit platter, eggs, sometimes pancakes, those special things.”
Lord Elgin’s Vice Principal Simon Conter explained that the breakfast kits donation will go a long way in terms of economic and emotional aspects.
“The students and parents will have the ability to have nutritious meals at no cost, which, as we know, London and Ontario and Canada and the greater world is experiencing lots of food insecurity at the moment. So this will give a little bit of relief, which is super wonderful.”

Conter emphasized the importance of corporate and community cooperation.
“The importance of cooperation between community and corporations is the development of trust, the cultivation of care, and supporting one another,” said Conter.
“We’re just really thankful and grateful that this type of program exists,” he added.
Conter and Hawkins expect the sharing to bring joy to students and families and provide a warm year-end to the community.
The breakfast kits will be distributed to students on December 19th.
