The major film KPop Demon Hunters took home two wins at this year’s Golden Globes ceremony.
The Netflix original created by Korean-Canadian director Maggie Kang won Best Motion Picture- Animated and Best Original Song for its title ‘Golden’ on Sunday.
“Through this film we really wanted to depict female characters the way that we know women, which is really strong and bold, really silly and weird, really hungry for food and sometimes really thirsty.” said Kang.
The film centers a girl band named ‘Huntr/x’, with members Rumi, Mira and Zoey holding secret identities as demon hunters to protect the world from the supernatural forces of rival band ‘Saja Boys’.
Kang also thanked “everyone who believed that a movie so deeply rooted in Korean culture could resonate with a global audience.”
It surpassed Squid Game as the most watched Netflix show in early September 2025, and reached over 500 million views by December.
It was written as a “love letter to music and the power it has to connect us, to make us see some kind of shared humanity, which we could use in the world these days,” said fellow director Chris Appelhans.
“We have to thank the fans for embracing the film, it meant everything, keeping the Honmoon strong.”
The other award for Best Original Song went to Joong Gyu Kwak, Hee Dong Nam, Yu Han Lee, Jeong Hoon Seo, Kim Eun-jae, Park Hong Jun and Mark Sonnenblick.
