The annual ‘Share The Land’ concert is returning for its 15th year.
Led by the students of Fanshawe College’s Music Industry Arts program, the show offers a platform to showcase the talent of up-and-coming students; from performances and marketing to stage management and technical production, Share The Land is an opportunity to bridge classroom lessons and practical experience.
“It’s a fun tradition and getting to work with people I wouldn’t normally work with because a lot of people in this band make super different music than I do,” said Xzavier dePapp-Clarke, also known by his stage name ‘Xae DC’, who is a rapper, songwriter, and the founder of record label ‘Year6’.
“And I never would have even considered working with them. So it was just an opportunity to work with new people and carry on a tradition and then perform on the biggest stage available.” he added.
Alongside performance practice, it also bridges behind-the-scenes aspects.
Andrés Silva, a producer, engineer, pianist and co-owner of Year6, expanded on the many opportunities students were given.
“Everyone jumps in and gets involved. There’s so many jobs; there’s tech jobs, there’s the social media. There’s other jobs like stage hands, stage manager, A&R, picking all the acts. All of that is student run.” he said.
The event is set to have multiple acts with different genres of music.
Artist, co-founder of Year6 and host of the show, Jayan Ali, also known as Hayden Miami, said that he’s looking forward to seeing the performances.
“And I get to like, engage with the audience in a really fun way. So I’m kind of excited to do that,” he said.
“I’m excited to like introduce all these all these people and all these guys and like get everyone excited to see what performances they do and what performances they put together because I haven’t seen anything yet.” he added.
“Like the main thing is spectacle, I feel. It’s like, yeah, the main focus is music, but it’s not just about playing good music. It’s about putting on a real show, a real experience.” says Xzavier.
The show will be held at the London Music Hall on February 11th.
Tickets are on sale through the music hall’s website.
