London native and former Wilfred Laurier University quarterback Taylor Elgersma has been selected to the United Football League.
Elgersma was selected by the Birmingham Stallions in the quarterback draft.
Elgersma attended Oak Ridge High School in London, Ont. and played his collegiate sports at Wilfred Laurier University.
Michael Faulds, current coach at Western but was formerly Elgersma’s head coach spoke about the kind of leader Elgersma was:
“Taylor is the best leader I’ve ever been around in terms of a student athlete. He came to Wilfrid Laurier University, obviously as a fresh out of high school quarterback, but he really wanted to learn.”
Faulds went onto add that Elgersma’s work ethic “allowed him to gain the respect of everyone so that when he did speak up, everyone was obviously there to listen.”
Elgersma racked up some pretty impressive awards while at Laurier including:
- 2023 OUA Most Valuable Player
- 2024 OUA Most Valuable Player
- 2024 Yates Cup Champion
- 2024 Yates Cup Most Valuable Player
- 2024 Hec Crighton Award Winner
- 2025 Lois and Doug Mitchell U SPORTS Athlete of the Year
Elgersma was a four time U Sports Academic All-Canadian.
Elgersma has not yet signed with the Stallions.
