Homicide case update; London man in custody
The suspect involved in the city’s first homicide has been taken into custody until his next appearance on Wednesday.
Robert Mitchell Cornelius, 38, of London has been charged with one count of second degree murder. He made his first court appearance on Friday.
Aylmer – impaired driver arrested
On January 17th, the Aylmer Police Service responded to a call regarding an impaired driver who was visibly drinking alcohol. Aylmer Police Service found through investigation that the man was prohibited from driving in Canada due to prior impaired convictions. The accused was charged with impaired operation, 80 plus and operation while prohibited. The vehicle is impounded for 45 days with the accused released on appearance notice with a future court date.
Intimate partner violence
A St. Thomas woman, 35, has been arrested regarding an incident that happened over the weekend. Police responded to a report on Sunday that he had been assaulted on Saturday by his ex-girlfriend. The accused was charged with assault with a weapon and was arrested Sunday evening; processed and released with a future court date.
Refusal to take a breathalyzer test
On January 17, 2026, Aylmer Police Service saw a vehicle parked on an angle in the parking lot on John St. The police spoke to the driver and noticed the smell of alcohol. The driver failed a roadside screening test. He was arrested and taken to the station for breath samples; which he refused. Consequently, the 47-year-old Aylmer man was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample. His license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days. He will appear in St Thomas court next month.
