With the winter weather, drivers are being warned to remain extra cautious.
The weather conditions have made the roads slippery and drivers should remain cautions while driving.
Jeff Hare, Constable for the Middlesex County OPP says to make sure that you carefully use your breaks.
“You need to slow down. They break and then that’s when you lose control for a lot of people. So be careful, use smooth inputs, you know, which means smooth acceleration, not a real quick start.”
Hare also says that the OPP sees and uptick of people going into the ditch during this time of year and urges drivers to take it slow to ensure safety.
“We’re all out here trying to get to where we need to go, and we have some people that just have no regard for the weather conditions. Sometimes it’s, there’s obviously different reasons for why things happen, but we all need to do a better job at getting to where we’re going as safe as possible.”
Denis Raymond of Drivewise London says the the speed is usually the mistake he sees most in young drivers.
“They’re driving too fast for the conditions.”
Raymond also shares a tip for young drivers in bad weather conditions;
“It depends on the amount of experience they have. If they don’t have a lot of experience, they should go with an experienced person.”
In these weather conditions, take it slow, drive carefully and make sure that your car is swept off.
