Reaction is pouring in surrounding Thames Valley District School Board’s (TVDSB) new student and family support office portal.
The TVDSB is one of five Ontario school boards required to launch a support portal, as they are supervised by the province and are currently without trustees.
TVDSB Superintendent Sheila Powell says the portal is useful, but families should contact their school first.
“This allows parents and students to reach out at anytime, to express concerns. We always encourage families to start with their school, to reach out to a classroom teacher, to reach out to the administration of the school, but if they’ve done that and still have concerns that they want to share, they can reach out to the school board,” said Powell.
When asked about the portal’s early feedback, Powell said it’s still early.
“We are expected to acknowledge the response within 48 hours, and do our best to address the response with a direct, more full conversation… certainly requests for follow up and concerns have started to come in.”
The TVDSB launched their new portal, along with four other Ontario school boards who are under the control of the province.
The portal’s launch has raised concerns surrounding the lack of trustees, and the online approach.
XFM News reached out to the Thames Valley Parent Involvement Committee (TVPIC) along with local MPP Peggy Sattler, but no comment was obtained.
