Olympic athletes are under a lot of stress representing their country.
Ted Brown, who coached Julia Gosling who is a women’s hockey player and will be representing Canada talked about the stress for these athletes.
“You’re representing your country and you feel that because you are a Canadian athlete, you don’t want to let your country down.”
Brown shares that these athletes feel like they’re unsuccessful unless they bring home a gold medal.
Brown says that the reception that Gosling got when she came back from her first Olympics was huge.
“Everybody was very excited. And everybody knew who she was because during her career with the Devilettes, she was very successful. She had a high D1 scholarship.”
Brown also shares what her career beyond the Devilettes has meant to the younger generation.
“You look at everything now that these females have a league to play in and can earn a living playing the game that they love. She’s on a PWHL team and now she’s on the Olympic team. So, all girls look up to her, females look up to her and say, you know what, if she can do it, I’m going to work hard and I’m going to try and get there too.”
Brown shares that if the younger generation works hard then they too can achieve their dreams.
The first Olympic game for Canada’s women’s hockey team in on Fri. Feb. 5, against Finland.
