London city council and staff are set to have a busy upcoming week as several items will be discussed. These include infrastructure, transit and housing affordability.
On Monday, the Infrastructure and Corporate Services Committee will receive a report from city staff on a proposal to relocate an oil pipeline near Sunningdale Road. The relocation would result in creating space for future road upgrades and support for the continued growth in the area.
Another item that will be discussed Monday will be a staff report recommending approval of the Queen’s Bridge rehabilitation project. City staff say the work would extend the bridge’s service life by approximately 50 years, add a path for pedestrians and cyclists, and include measures to protect the Thames River shoreline.
On Tuesday, city staff will outline a proposed student transit pilot program for Grade 9 and Grade 10 students at Clarke Road Secondary School. The initiative which is being developed in partnership with the Thames Valley District School Board and the London Transit Commission, would explore providing free annual bus passes to students to improve access to school and extracurricular activities.
Council will also review a proposed homeownership incentive program that would see the city cover part of development charges on new homes, with builders responsible for the remaining costs, in an effort to help first-time buyers enter the market.
