The high-profile police probe into a slew of hazardous chemicals and firearms at a home near Western University is “not a national security investigation,” London police said Friday.
“This is not a terrorism investigation. This is not a national security investigation,” Deputy Chief Paul Bastien said at a news conference at London Police Headquarters.
It’s been nearly two weeks since police announced they charged four people after finding firearms and chemicals capable of making explosives at a Chesham Place home, and temporarily evacuated the block.
Bastien said London police have partnered with the OPP and RCMP to ensure that “they are informed, engaged, and have the opportunity to provide their expertise and input” in the case.
Police “don’t yet know, necessarily, what the [suspects’] ultimate goal was,” he said.
The investigation started with a trespassing call at Western University on Jan. 24, which led police to a loaded handgun and hazardous chemicals, they said.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as they become available.
