Fanshawe College is preparing to close out its annual United Way campaign with an upcoming fundraising concert at a new venue.
“It’s an annual event that we do for the Fanshawe United Way campaign,” said Jeff Wright, Vice President of Innovation Strategy and Enrollment at Fanshawe.
The night will feature live music from Memphis Jam, an eight-piece band
Wright, who leads and is also the band’s vocalist, said the concert is designed to celebrate the success of the fundraising campaign while encouraging one final push of community support.
“We’ve been doing it at Aeolian Hall for many years, and this is the first time we’ll be doing it in the new FSU Performance Centre,” he said.
The group performs roots-, rock- and soul-inspired music influenced by the Memphis sound, combining contemporary covers with original songs.
“We started as a four-piece, and now we’re an eight-piece,” Wright said. “We’ve added more layering and texture to the sound — sax, keys, background vocals and harmonica — and it gives us a lot more depth and range.”
Tickets for the upcoming concert are available online through Fanshawe Retail.
