Fanshawe’s annual United Way campaign is set to finish on a high note — and right on campus this year.
The Memphis Jam: Rock for a Cause takes place Sat. Feb 28 at Fanshawe’s Forwell Hall.
“It’s an annual event that we do for the Fanshawe United Way campaign,” said Jeff Wright, Memphis Jam member and Fanshawe’s vice president of innovation strategy and enrollment.
Wright, who leads and is also the band’s vocalist, said the concert is designed to celebrate the success of the fundraising campaign while encouraging one final push of community support for United Way.
“We’ve been doing it at Aeolian Hall for many years, and this is the first time we’ll be doing it in the new FSU Performance Centre,” he said.
The group performs roots-, rock- and soul-inspired music influenced by the Memphis sound, combining contemporary covers with original songs.
“We started as a four-piece, and now we’re an eight-piece,” Wright said. “We’ve added more layering and texture to the sound — sax, keys, background vocals and harmonica — and it gives us a lot more depth and range.”
Tickets for the upcoming concert are available online through Fanshawe Retail.
