Canada walked away from the 2026 Winter Olympics with 21 medals.
Canada won five gold, seven silver and nine bronze medals. This was the lowest Canada has finished in the medal count since 2002.
Canadian Olympic Committee chief David Shoemaker spoke at a press conference on Sunday.
“Core funding for national sports organizations has not increased in 20 years,” Shoemaker said. “It needs to.”
Six London locals represented Canada, all of whom won medals.
London natives Julia Gosling and Ella Shelton won silver with the women’s hockey team while Drew Doughty, Nick Suzuki and Bo Horvat won silver with the men’s hockey team on Sunday.
Sarah Wilkes also won bronze with the women’s curling team.
Several Canadians won gold medals at the Olympics outside of London.
Mikaël Kingsbury won gold and silver in men’s freestyle skiing events. Megan Oldman won gold and bronze in women’s freestyle skiing events. Steven Dubois won gold in the men’s 500-metre speed skating event and was part of the mixed relay speed skating team that won silver.
The women’s long track speed skating team won gold, and the men’s curling team also won gold.
Canada ranked 11th in gold medals and eighth in total medals.
The next Winter Olympics will be held in France in 2030.
