The Fanshawe Student Union wrapped up its FSU elections as Shadé Dias was named the new FSU president.
Though her main focus is food security for students, due to the international student cap, the topic of financial deficit is one that she aims to tackle.
Dias mentions that its not just the international students she wants to focus on, but also the cuts in staff due to the financial deficit and how she can help students with employment opportunities.
“Seeing how best we can connect employers with student moving forward because at the end of the day, the main focus coming to school is to get a job, right?” says Dias.
Over 3,000 students voted this year, with Dias receiving 770 votes, right behind her was Harsh Rana with 625 and Elizabeth Bakalova with 539.
“We screamed, we were excited,” said students after seeing that Dias won.
Comparing to other colleges and universities in Ontario, this year was one of the highest turnouts for the election.
All of the Directors were elected this ear. They needed at least 100 votes and the majority of those had to be yes votes.
The campaigning ran from Feb, 24 to Mar, 4 with voting being opening on Mar, 1 to Mar, 4 at 2 PM.
