London police are warning people after several non-fatal overdoses happened in the downtown area Wednesday. Just after 11:15 a.m., officers responded when multiple people needed medical help.
Investigators say someone driving around downtown gave out a free unknown substance to several people before leaving. Some of those who used it later overdosed.
“Anyone who got this substance should not use it and should contact police right away,” said a spokesperson for the London Police Service. “If you see someone handing out unknown substances, call 9-1-1 immediately.”
The investigation is now with the LPS Patrol Operations Investigative Section. Police are trying to identify the person and the vehicle. They are also asking anyone with dash-cam or security video from the downtown area to come forward. Tips can be given to the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670, to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or submitted anonymously online.
Residents and visitors are reminded to stay alert while the investigation continues. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
