An Ingersoll man is dead following an early-morning crash involving an e-bike, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.
Police say emergency crews were called shortly after 1:30 a.m. Friday to Charles Street East after reports an e-bike had collided with a pole.
The 56-year-old rider from Ingersoll suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Sgt. Ed Sanchuk offered condolences to the victim’s family and thanked bystanders who stopped to help and contact police.
Police say the e-bike involved is classified as a bicycle-style model, meaning it follows the same rules of the road as a standard bicycle.
Investigators say the cause of the crash remains under investigation, including whether speed, road conditions or impairment were factors.
Police are also asking any witnesses to come forward to help determine the circumstances leading up to the collision.
It is not yet known whether a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
Charles Street East was closed between Mill Line and Taylor Street during the investigation but has since reopened.
