A earthquake shook the Ottawa area Tuesday afternoon, shaking parts of eastern Ontario and western Quebec.
Earthquakes Canada said the quake was around a magnitude of about 3.9 and struck shortly after 12:30 p.m. near Shawville, Que., around 70 kilometres northwest of Ottawa.
Residents throughout the region stated they were having light shaking, though some said some buildings shook briefly.
The reports to the monitoring agencies were obtained as far as Toronto, but most describe the intensity as weak to light.
No injuries or damage have been noted.
Eastern Ontario is part of the Western Quebec Seismic Zone, an area that sometimes gets shaken, though stronger earthquakes are relatively rare.
Last major earthquake to shake the Ottawa area was a magnitude 5.0 earthquake in 2010 near Val-des-Bois, Que.
