Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has stated that most Canadians will receive the COVID-19 vaccination by September of 2021. The Prime Minister made this announcement today from outside of his Ottawa home.
“We’re working extremely hard to deliver as quickly and safely as possible.” said Trudeau.
Top doctors from across the country have stressed this could be slightly optimistic. Many have stated that this is certainly a possibility, but a wide variety of factors would have to go well for September to be a realistic time.
“I’m always in agreement with our prime minister,” deputy chief public health officer Dr. Howard Njoo said with a smile while speaking with reporters today.
“It’s very difficult to talk about precise numbers. I think that the prime minister is optimistic; I am, too. There are a lot of unknowns.”
Currently the nation is looking to roll out vaccines by the beginning of next year. It is estimated that 6 million doses of vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna could be distributed by January or February of 2021.
Trudeau also discussed the plan in terms of rolling out these COVID-19 vaccines. The former head of the NATO mission in Iraq, Maj. Gen. Dany Fortin, has been tasked with leading the federal government’s distribution of the vaccine.
Trudeau also provided details of how the roll-out plan for those vaccines is starting to take shape. He shared that he has tapped the former head of the NATO mission in Iraq, Maj.-Gen. Dany Fortin, to lead the federal government’s COVID-19 distribution of a vaccine.
Ontario reported a record-high of 1,855 new cases of COVID-19 today, and 20 more deaths.
