Winter is a beautiful season, everything gets covered in white snow, and it comes with all the best activities. However, it is not the best season for cars.
Car issues occur everyday, everywhere, and the weather can affect your car quite significantly. Chris Cassar, owner of Chris Cassars Auto Repair, explains what can happen to your car in the winter.
“The cold brings on issues with batteries, issues with water in the fuel system, broken windshield wipers from people scraping out their windshield. People usually find, come snowfall, that their tires aren’t adequate, especially if they’re running an all season tires and when there’s a lot of snow on the ground, people driving through snow banks will end up getting snow built up in their wheels which can cause a vibration or a balance issue. “
Some things to keep in mind, is always keep your fuel tank more full than less because it helps balance the weight of the vehicle so the brakes can perform better. In most cars, there’s a fuel pump that’s submerged in the tank and the fuel keeps it cool. So when you’re driving it on a hot day, you’re running the risk of overheating and burning up a fuel pump.
Chris explains how you can prevent or avoid these issues.
“It’s important for people going into winter to have their cooling systems checked, have their batteries checked. They can be tested for the winter to come. It’s good right now, but it could be bad tomorrow there are ways to test this stuff to give you the foresight that you’re not going to have a problem. Have all the appropriate things looked at before winter hits instead of in the middle of a snowstorm which or a cold snap, which does happen a lot.”
The pandemic actually made car issues worse because people stopped driving their cars and killing their batteries.
This is a bigger issue than people tend to think.
