London Farm Show to be held Virtually

The Agriplex is usually one of the sites used for the show

The 82-year-old tradition of the London Farm Show will be held virtually this year. It will be held from March 3-5 and will have three days of speaker content about topics relating to the Agricultural industry.

Speakers include Mark Beaven, President & Founder of EthoGuard, Dr. Helen Hambly from the University of Guelph, and Greg Stewart, Lead Agronomist, Maizex Seeds just to name a few.

Andrew Campbell, a local farmer and a speaker for the event reflects on what the significance is for having a farm show in London.

“It brings together all of the local businesses around southwestern Ontario into one location,” Campbell says. “A whole bunch of area farms can go see the latest technology, visit with a sales rep, get ideas for their own operation, a really great opportunity.”

Most industries had to adjust or change there operations completely thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Farmers aren’t different. Campbell explains what has been the issue for farmers during the pandemic.

“I think the thing that fits most of us is probably that uncertainty element,” Campbell stated. “There was a lot of things that had to change in terms of workflows, in terms of processing lines, in terms of consumer demand. Since then there’s been, quite a bit of uncertainty over when do things get back to normal? Do they get back to normal? How do we proceed with the kind of products that we’ve been accustomed to selling.”

However, not all bad things have come from the pandemic. “The thing that I’ve appreciated out of it certainly people here in southwestern Ontario have come to reconnect with so many things around food,” Campbell said. “We talk about the resurgence of home baking and home cooking, the research of trying to seek out more and more local options to support farmers in the province and farmers in the region.”
