With it only being an hour away from London, Grand Bend is a popular location for a quick beach getaway. Lambton Shores’ Mayor, Bill Weber is predicting another busy season for the beach town.
“It’s going to be an extremely busy summer. People have been locked down and have been wanting to get out and do more things” the Mayor says.
Weber says there were lots of visitors last year during the first summer with COVID-19. Which led to some concerns.
“For the most part, people respected the social distancing. And made every attempt to keep everyone safe. But there were times that it was too crowded” he says.
To avoid the large crowds this year, Weber is hoping that more of the area beaches are open. Having beaches down the coast closed, like Ipperwash, Burley, and Pinery Provincial Park can cause more people to gather on Grand Ben’s main beach.
“The capacity is there, and we’ll utilize everything that we can to make sure it’s full of different attractions that are in the area” says Weber.
Weber adds that there has been a lot of growth and redevelopment for businesses this summer. With more people becoming vaccinated, the Mayor is inviting everyone to visit Lambton Shores this summer to enjoy the beaches and restaurant patios. While still respecting the COVID-19 protocols.
“We hope that everyone comes again. With COVID or without COVID, there are rules that people need to follow. And as long as everyone follows those rules, everybody can have a good time and come to Grand Bend, come to Lambton Shores.”
