Three days ago marked a new era for Ontarians and London citizens. Vaccine Passports are certainly a new idea, but it’s a relatively well welcomed one as this new system is slowly bringing us back to a sense of normality. These passports serve as a safety net for you and those around you, you can feel that much safer doing the things you love. But as a essential worker in the fast food service industry, there’s certainly elements of the system that feel a little off.
I worked my first shift at a taco bell here in London since the introduction of the Vaccine Passport system, and the act of asking to see someone’s ID just to dine in at the location can feel like a slight invasion of privacy. But it’s important to remember that those who make a big fuss out of the new system had plenty of time to get vaccined. As well as prepare themselves for stricter criteria for indoor events/services. We spoke to Kal Brown, an essential worker on how they feel on the new systems that have been put into place.
“It’s a big step in the right direction, it’s finally time the government lays down a stricter set of rules to curve rising case numbers. People have had their time to be confused about COVID and pandemic living, I’m glad people are adapting to the new rules and hope to see more and more adapt to them in the future.”
There are exemptions to the rules where proof of vaccination and ID is not needed, including using the washroom, purchasing an order/admission, or accessing areas only accessible through an interior path. But for most cases and scenarios you will need full proof of double vaccination and ID.
The future is looking bright between the new rule set put into place as well as an official digital vaccine passport app launching in late October with a scannable QR code for easy access to important documents.
