Healthcare workers receiving the vaccine shot
Ontario has recommend the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for those aged 18 to 24. This is after an increase in cases of a heart condition in young adults who have received the Moderna vaccines. The province said the rise of pericarditis and myocarditis cases has been decided mostly among men in the 7 year age group. Despite this females and the older population still do have a very rare chance of contracting one of these conditions. Ontario has gone on record stating following a second dose of Moderna the risk of developing pericarditis or myocarditis was one in 5,000. This is in comparison to the one in 28,000 odds of developing these heart conditions after recieving a Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. A majority of these cases are being considered as mild. As of right now, there has been no fatalities or hospitalizations coming from the Vaccine.
People can still take the Moderna vaccine, the recommendation is completely optional as the risk of serious side effects are so little. The risk of developing pericarditis or myocarditis from a Moderna vaccine is still significantly less then the risk of developing those same conditions when infected with COVID-19. I sat down with a London citizen who has personally had the Moderna vaccine about this issue.
“There are some people that are totally against it, my boyfriend being one of them he is kind of afraid of the underlying unknown side effects long term. So he’s kind of afraid of getting it because it hasn’t really been tested before it was given out so, he hasn’t gotten his.”
This is where options come into play, the recommendation is still completely preferential at the end of the day. As well as the option to take any other vaccination option, including AstraZeneca Vaxzevria, Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty, or Janssen (Johnson & Johnson). COVID-19 vaccines are a new thing, so those who may still be a little skeptical have every right to feel so. It’s important not to pass judgment on those just exercising thier rights as a Canadian.
“I think its important to get the Vaccine, just because it effects the greater amount of the population, especially people who are immune deficient. I ended up getting double vaxxed due to the fact that my grandparents on both sides, there all immune deficient and for me family is a really big thing.”
The Moderna SpikeVax vaccine is currently being offered all around the nation and the province. The vaccine is effective against COVID-19 and is still considered a valid dose for all who had the injection.
