Vintage wine is amazing, but does vintage clothing have the same effect? For many years, vintage clothing was seen as something that was not a societal norm. Vintage clothing was not appreciated as much as it is today. For the past few years, the vintage clothing industry has grown exponentially. With the rise of the industry, resellers have taken advantage of the interest and ran with it.
Anton Foslett, a vintage clothing reseller out of London decided to open up his own store, Canada’s Finest Vintage, a few years ago. Unfortunately, the store had to close due to Covid-19. With Covid-19 pushing the market online like everything else, Anton didn’t know what to do. “It shut down all retail settings and all forms of in person shopping, which really did change the shopping experience for everybody and the selling experience for myself. It shifted everything really towards online and was the only option we had. But I think I think I don’t know it still worked out for everybody and it changed the way people do things for sure.” He says that the online side of the industry was a good thing to come out of the pandemic.
With online shopping being what many people did to past time during the pandemic, Foslett says that it could be a great market push into in-person shopping. ” I just think the resale market has shifted so far online. I think everyone is shopping online so and then people do want to meet up in person. We can do that as well. But there are also vintage events starting up again which is great. Then people get some in person shopping again, which is a such a nice experience for them.”
Foslett hopes to see the vintage industry continue to grow, and continue to become more mainstream in today’s day and age.
