The National Public Alerting System will be doing a nationwide scheduled test Wednesday. The test will send a message to your phone, simulating what a real emergency message would be like. This test will occur on all devices where emergency messages are displayed, like phones, television, and the radio.
The scheduled test is expected to commence in Ontario at around 12:55 pm. This will be a test, and there will be no cause for concern.
Today's the day of the #AlertReadyTest, Canada!
If you are in a participating province or territory, you will receive a test alert on your compatible wireless devices, radio, and TV at the times below 👇 pic.twitter.com/iVAhVRGXGS

After the test has concluded, you mustn’t call 911 to complain about receiving the message. Public Safety Canada explains why below:
If you receive the test #emergency alert, please do not call 911. This service is a life-saving tool that should only be used for emergencies and is not an appropriate venue for complaints about the #AlertReady system.

These tests are necessary to ensure the systems work and are ready for when a situation requires a real emergency message to be sent out.
