Ontario’s NDP Leader Andrea Horwath voiced her concerns early Wednesday morning as to why children five years and younger are not eligible to be vaccinated. Young children are prone to get the sniffles and stomach aches, but are sent home and are required to self-isolate because of the pandemic. Not a lot of families can afford to self-isolate for five days. With the PCR tests costing so much money for young children, most families are not able to pay for it, resulting in many children being denied education.
“Kids often have a sore throat, the sniffles, a tummy ache or just a headache. Parents have no information nor do they have any access to verification of their of their child’s symptoms as to whether or not they’re COVID. Because of course, there’s no access to to PCR testing.”
Horwath thinks that if family are expected to self-isolate for five days, then the least that the government can do is to allow access to paid sick days.
“We need to have paid sick days, I mean, if a family is expected to go home, or stay home with their children, at the sign of COVID 19 symptoms, then the very least we should be doing is making sure they have access to paid sick days able to do that without financially burdening their family.”
A mother of two beautiful young children, who’s wishes are to stay anonymous, tells her opinions and concerns on why children should be eligible for PCR testing and vaccinations.
“I feel that the PCR testing is good confirmation that kids are actually negative, unable to return to childcare, especially by my standpoint. Both my husband and myself are full time workers, so in regards a PCR testing can’t be done, they’re isolating longer at home, which means we have to stay home from work.”
The mother then explains why she thinks it’s for a better if young children are eligible for the PCR testing.
“I think it’s just a better direction for isolation. You know, less transfer of the virus, because it’s a guarantee that they’re negative or positive, so it’s easier to direct either isolation period.”
Young children should be eligible for the PCR testing and vaccinations. They are more prone to carry the virus and they are not afraid to spread it. It’s of course, unintentional, but children play together. Very hands on, it’s inevitable. If we start testing and vaccinated young children, we could perhaps fix the problem that has been the pandemic for the past two years.
