Premier Doug Ford made an announcement on Feb. 14 lifting some major mandates in Ontario. Effective Feb. 17, capacity limits will be lifted on all buildings except sporting/concert venues and theatres, which will all be kept at 50% capacity. Some higher-risk settings will be capped at 25%.
Ford also announced that effective Mar. 1, vaccine passports will no longer be required in public places.
“Social gathering limits will increase to 25 people indoors and 100 people outdoors,” says Ford. “Organized public events will increase to 50 people indoors, with no limits outdoors. Based on the advice of Dr. Moore, and what we’ve learned over the pandemic, we will need to keep masking in place for just a little bit longer. This is an important layer of protection that will allow us to proceed with our reopening plan safely.”
Ford followed this announcement by saying these decisions were not made because of protests currently happening in Ontario. He also gave some updates on the protests and consequences.
“To those of you who are there with a sole objective of causing disruption of chaos, there will be serious consequences. You’ll lose your license for life. You’re going to lose your car indefinitely. And we’re going to throw every tool we have at you to make sure we bring stability back to our great province and our great country.”
Ford says there were already some seizures of licenses and vehicles this past weekend.
