Spring Break is one of the most popular times of the year to travel. Destinations like Miami Beach, Panama City Beach, and Fort Lauderdale have seen hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Unfortunately, the Pandemic has thrown a wrench in Spring Break, adding travel problems and destination restrictions. To get an idea of how traveling for Spring Break this year is, I talked to a recent traveler and a travel advisor about what to expect.
To start, I talked to a travel advisor that goes by the name Hannah Travel.
Hannah describes how the Pandemic impacted her business.
“The first year, it was very slow because people thought all the airports were closed, which wasn’t true. So they were at the beginning but not for too long. I believe it was in June 2020 we started taking off from the Canadian airports. Now this year, everything went back to normal.”
Hannah continues why it was so hard to get customers to travel these past few years.
“They don’t have much information about restrictions, and unfortunately, they can’t get information on websites. So, these agencies don’t know. They do not know all the restrictions going on right now. But, the good thing is that we can advise them, even the people who haven’t even purchased packages or tickets from us. So, we try to help them.”
Hannah adds some extra tips that she has picked up over the past year.
“Before the booking, it’s better to search for some more information regarding the resort or places you want to go. Check a few days before departure as well. Check what the restrictions are and how they are involved with the destination because unfortunately, almost every week, all the rules are changing, and we advise people just to call us back.”
Hannah concludes with changing trends and which destinations you should look out for below:

For more insight, I talked to Walter Wilmsmeyer, who has traveled recently and travels consistently every year.
Wilmsmeyer starts by sharing his own experiences traveling in the Pandemic.
“My experiences traveling during the Pandemic have been pretty normal. You still have to go to the airport three hours before security check-in and do all the normal things. So, it was okay traveling. Some of the struggles we had were the PCR tests you have to provide the country you’re traveling to. Also, coming back into Canada, you provide them 72 hours before. So, it was a bit of a pain in the butt. Planning the trip was the same as planning any other trip. You make sure that you have your PCR tests and your proper apps and make sure that you pload and have a hard copy.”
Wilmsmeyer continues with a tip that saved someone he was traveling with.
“1 Tip for anyone who’s looking to travel, make sure you have cancellation insurance. Cancellation insurance is essential. We were traveling with three couples. One of the couples ended up coming down with COVID a week before leaving, and they had to cancel their trip. So, they had cancellation insurance; they got all their money back. It was great. We ended up going, just two couples instead of three, but that was something that I recommend.”
Wilmsmeyer concludes with recommendations for your Spring Break travel plans.
“We traveled to Aruba. It was amazing. I highly recommend it. I also heard Turks and Caicos is another hotspot to go to during COVID, where you don’t have to worry about restrictions. So yeah, that’s my recommendation, Aruba or Turks and Caicos.”
So, whether you are going to a place like Miami, Aruba, or Cuba, make sure to take every precaution necessary. Don’t let yourself get behind on the news about restrictions, and if you are traveling this Spring Break, Have a wonderful time!
