Fanshawe’s road in the Volleyball playoffs begins tonight. The Men & Women will travel to take on the mighty Mohawk Mountaineers. Although the road to the playoffs has not been easy, players are optimistic about going into these matchups. Both the Men & the Women have had mediocre seasons and currently are in the middle of losing streaks. These games are a win-or-go-home situation, and with their backs against the wall, the Falcons have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
The Men’s Volleyball team will have their hands full with a Mountaineer squad that finished the season 6-3. The Men’s Falcons team had a record of 5-4. Despite the close records, the Mountaineers have proven to be a tough team to play against. The Mountaineers were also victorious in the only regular-season matchup between these squads. If the Men’s team weren’t in a current slump, they would be given more chance, but this will be their most challenging season test by far.
The Women’s Volleyball team has lost three games in a row. Fanshawe hasn’t tasted victory since February 23rd, and now they are going up against a Mountaineers team that finished 8-1. However, the Mountaineer Women’s team has been nearly perfect all year long. Fanshawe’s victory on February 23rd also marked the last time the Mountaineer Women’s team was even slightly tested. Their only loss of the season came in a close game to Humber, and they have been unstoppable since the loss. Like the men, this will be the Falcons’ toughest matchup of the year.
So, the Men & Women Volleyball teams will try to spoil the playoff dreams of two very talented squads playing outstanding Volleyball. Can they win? Well, that’s the thing about sports; anyone can win on any given day. Time will tell how these games turn out. The Women’s game gets started at 6:00 pm, while the Men’s game gets started at 8:00 pm.
