London gym goers heard some good news Friday morning as London announced that the former Movati Athletic locations would reopen under a new name.
The news comes months after the Canadian gym chain announced the closure of its two London locations which left hundreds of members scrambling to find new gyms.
“It came as a shock I think to all of us and it led us to having to find a new gym. It was hard for me because I had been a member for about 11 years so it was like home to me” Mitchell Proper who was a long time member said.
Proper had considered Movati as a second home and a place he often went to as his quite place and was shocked and confused to hear that only the London locations were closing
Although Proper felt a little betrayed by the closing he still believes that when the new gym opens, the old community he grew to love over the 11 years he was there will hopefully come back to carry on.
Proper says while he is getting used to his new setup his loyalty lies with the old Movati location.
“If the deals are there and I see the old Movati community heading back why would I say no. Its like a family there everyone pretty much knew everyone and I’m excited to get back to familiarity at the old gym”.
The city of London announced on Friday that real estate group Southside Group Limited would terminate the lease with Movati and both London locations and will reopen the gyms under a new brand.
The Canadian gym chain had operated in London since 1997 prior to its closure.
