The Western Mustangs tennis team is on the road this weekend, looking to continue a strong start to the season.
The men’s and women’s teams are both 2-0 and hoping for another pair of wins against York and Montreal.
Men’s head coach Anthony Glavanic says with his team’s depth, he thinks his players will be more worried about keeping their spots in the lineup than playing another team.
“There are so many guys that could be in the lineup,” Glavanic says. “There are going to be a lot of guys that didn’t play [last] week that are going to be so hungry to knock one of our own guys off, so I expect us to be 100 percent ready.”
Glavanic says that unlike in most sports, road games in tennis can actually benefit a team.
“It’s kind of different than a team sport that they’re actually trying to beat each other, and next thing you know, they’re cheering each other,” says Glavanic. “So a road game, going to a restaurant, getting to know each other, cutting each other up, is very important for a team concept. I think it’s an incredible positive.”
The Mustangs play York on Friday and Montreal on Saturday.
