Greek prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, was in Canada to celebrate the 203rd anniversary of the war of independence that led to the creation of the modern state of Greece. He started his trip in Montreal, where he walked alongside Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Mitsotakis travelled with Trudeau to Toronto where both talked about the importance of Greek Independence Day and the cultural significance it has.
“It was pretty cool to have him come to Toronto. It shows that., he is aware of the celebrations that we have here in our provinces Capital given the sizes of the Greek community in places like Chicago and New York, he decided to come to Toronto instead,” said Yannis Economopoulos, a Greek-Canadian Londoner, who was present in Toronto to see and greet the Greek PM.
During the presentation, Mitsotakis and Trudeau both shared the recent projects and deals Canada and Greece have agreed on to strengthen their economic ties.
Many many different Canadian companies have invested in Greece and have been very successful in doing so for those strengths and not just in our economic ties, but trades. Our investment flows convince more Canadian companies to be part of the Greek success story, but also why not convince Greeks to invest in Canada” said Mitsotakis.
It was the first time in over 40 years that a Greek prime minister has visited Canada where Justin’s father, Pierre, welcomed Prime Minister Papandreou
