Police are reminding Londoners that it is illegal to ride a bicycle on 400-series highways after a teenage cyclist caused a temporary shutdown of the 401.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded after receiving multiple calls about a person riding a bicycle in the eastbound lanes of the 401 at Wonderland Road before noon on Sunday, May 26.
In order to keep drivers as well as the cyclist safe, police briefly closed the highway in order to get the cyclist off the road.
As a result, a 16-year-old from Southwest Middlesex has been charged with riding a bicycle on a controlled-access highway as well as being a pedestrian using a controlled-access highway.
The accused has been released from police custody with a future court date.
