Fanshawe College is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Ignite Career event, set to take place on Nov. 2 at Main Campus 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Murilo Tamburus, outreach and events coordinator, highlighted the conference’s milestone and noted that attendees can expect new surprises. “It’s an amazing opportunity to experience a real-life conference that we prepare for our students. It’s a lot to gain for their future career and a lot of insights,” he said.

It will feature an opening keynote by Ian Tyson, who will explore the importance of personal and professional choices. According to Tamburus, Tyson’s message is aimed at helping students make informed decisions that can shape their future. Following Tyson’s address, participants will have the chance to attend workshops that cover a wide range of topics tailored to current career interests. They can select from four workshops, attending one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

New to this year’s lineup is a session by Nicole Haney, business coach, professor, and professional speaker, focusing on entrepreneurship for those interested in starting their own businesses. Other workshops include Melissa Maloney’s session on personal branding and Christine Wilton’s ‘Connecting for Career Success,’ where the director of Workforce Development Corporation will share tips on opening doors through meaningful connections.
The event will conclude with a keynote by Sean Aiken, who will share insights from his unique journey of working 52 jobs in 52 weeks. Aiken’s experiences will offer students a perspective on exploring diverse career paths and discovering personal passions.

“I attended Ignite 2023, and it was an amazing, fun experience where I learned a lot. My favourite session was led by Sam Demma—it was incredibly motivating. This year, I’m looking forward to having fun and meeting new people,“ said Scarlet Quezada, Health care administration management student.
“I’d like to attend Ian Tyson’s session because I believe I’ll gain useful tools and strategies to manage my studies better and approach my personal life with more positivity,” said Francisco Cuartas, Hospitality and tourism operations management student.
