Over 80 teams of Londoners took part in the 2024 TD Stair Climb.
This year, the event was held at Canada Life Place, where participants walked in a circuit through the stands, climbing up and down over 1000 steps.
The event raises money for United Way Elgin Middlesex to help support those living in poverty.
Students from Fanshawe’s Fitness and Health Promotion program were there to participate and help out throughout the day.
“We’re just here kinda encouraging people to try their best, just get active,” said Adam, one of their team members. “We’re even getting involved, as well, in the stair climb—I’m a little out of breath.”
He said the climb isn’t too bad, and people only need to do a couple of laps.
”Anyone can do it if they put their mind to it.”
Local Olympic gold-medalist Damian Warner was also there to cheer on the participants.
“People are coming from schools, they’re coming from businesses… to raise money to help people who are in poverty,” he said. “It’s been an awesome day so far.”
He says the atmosphere was great and that people seemed to be having a lot of fun.
“You have people running up as fast as they can, and other people taking their time talking—and dancing, some of them,” he said. “So, it’s whatever you wanna do, you come out here and just raise money for an awesome cause.”
Last year, over $100,000 was raised for United Way, and they’re hopeful that this year they can raise even more.
