With the Victoria Day long weekend now here, people across London are embracing the chance to relax, catch up with friends, or pursue their favorite activities.
For many, it’s the unofficial start to summer—a time to make the most of the warmer weather, light fireworks, and break away from daily routines.

“Just going out to a party with my friends this weekend, you know, shoot some fireworks,” one Fanshawe student said. “Should be fun.”
Others are looking forward to having a quieter weekend. “Yeah, just really just take it easy, take the long weekend and just chill, should be great,” another Fanshawe student responded. Others stated low-key activities like playing soccer or doing work over the holiday.
For the individuals in Esports, this weekend is still quite eventful.
“I’m actually going to the Canadian Intercollegiate Esports Exhibition, which is a weeklong event featuring a series of tournaments, panels, and guest appearances by industry experts, players, coaches, and fans,” said an employer at Fanshawe Fuel.
Victoria Day in Canada
Victoria Day, commemorated on the Monday prior to May 25, commemorates the birthday of Queen Victoria, who reigned from 1837 until 1901.
“It’s just a great time to reboot before summer really kicks in,” said one London resident.
The holiday is rich in Canadian tradition and, while often including fireworks displays and civic events, has something for everybody over the long weekend.
