The Downtown Dollar gift card is now available in a digital format and can be used through a phone app.
“The digital option wasn’t available back in 2021 when the card first launched,” said Brent Hodson, marketing and communications manager for Downtown London.
“Because of the technology changes, this is a great move for us. Now people can just use the card and tap at payments, instead of when our card was originally a swipe card.”
Downtown London businesses have responded positively to the digital upgrade.
“A lot of companies like it, as it’s an option for those who don’t have a gift card of their own. They can use this program to their advantage by getting people to purchase the Downtown card and use it as a gift,” Hodson said.
“There are over 195 businesses where the card can be used, so it gives people choice in where they want to spend it.”
Hodson believes the digital version will strengthen purchasing power for shoppers in the down town core.
“We’re just excited to offer this convenient option,” he said. “People can now purchase the card online, have it sent directly to their phone, and tap away at their favourite coffee shop, restaurant or retail business downtown.”
