Every month, Sharing Shop Coordinator, Amy Romao, looks at the shelves, and decides which one needs stocking up. For October, the on-campus emergency food bank is requesting personal hygeine items, particularly feminine hygeine pads and dental floss.
“These types of items, I feel like people take for granted because they have them at home, or they are available for purchase,” said Romao. The Sharing Shop is also looking for bars of soap, toliet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and paper towels.
The coordinator added that while they often receive canned foods, proteins such as peanut butter and chickpeas, along with pasta and pasta sauce, are food items in high demand. Romao said it’s the perfect time of year to give back, because Thanksgiving is just around the corner.
“Give thanks that a lot of people are fortunate enough to have plenty. So if you’re able to share, it’s a great time of year to bring in those items for students in need.”
Students in need can use the Sharing Shop up to three times a semester, and donations can be dropped off at either the Sharing Shop office, the Fanshawe Student Union Office, or Fanshawe’s Book Store.
