The Enwave heating and energy company in London Ontario will be shutting down steam lines that provide heat to multiple city buildings, as of next fall.
One of the counselors is calling for compensation as this project is estimated to cost more that $8 million from a contingency fund.
“We’ve been put into a really hard place, I’d like to see financial compensation to help us and the other parties that are affected as well,’ said Coun. David Ferreria.
This decision is leading to many companies and city buildings desperately looking for new heating companies to install new lines before the eventual shut down estimated to be on October 31st 2026. A report states that the project will be complex, that could lead to the project costing more than it’s estimated.
A good handful of these buildings don’t have on site heating equipment like a boiler or furnace, there could be a few challenges with these new projects as well, such as; deadlines, additional upgrades to other existing lines, the buildings being affected, and having to put in temporary heating systems in the mean time.
The affected buildings by this shutdown are City Hall, London Music Hall and London Museum, Centennial Hall and the Central Library Branch.
The total cost for these affected facilities range from $7,550,000 to $8,350,000
