Londoners are invited to pull on their pyjamas Saturday for the annual Childcan pyjama walk, a fundraiser that supports families facing childhood cancer and helps fund paediatric cancer research.
Childcan provides hospital parking passes, travel assistance and help with household bills for families of children in cancer treatment.
“Preparations are going fantastically, we can’t wait to see everybody,” said Amy Mathias, Childcan’s community engagement and communications associate.
“If you wear your pyjamas, you show the kids who are suffering from childhood cancer who spend far too much time in their pyjamas that they are not alone in their battle with cancer.” Mathias said.
“Childhood cancer can be incredibly isolating,” she added. “But when they’re outside at an event like this and they see all these people coming out to support them, it gives such a lift to the heart, and it’s wonderful to see.”
Mathias highlighted little kid Scarlett, who appears in a Childcan video asking, “will you walk for me? will you help me?”.
“She’s so cute with a little bald head, she’s adorable.” Mathias said.
She also encourages people to watch the video and join the event: ”See Scarlett, come out and walk for her. Help Scarlett.”
The walk starts Saturday at 5 p.m. at Springbank Gardens, 285 Wonderland Rd. S.
Donations can be made anytime at Childcan.com.
