The War of 1812 lasted over three years and saw more than 18,000 casualties.
Fanshawe Pioneer Village is hosting their annual ‘Invasion of Upper Canada’ re-enactment. There are over 200 actors from all over Canada and the northern United States, who are putting on uniforms and firing muskets.
John Goldsworthy, actor portraying a soldier on the American army, says that Londoners need to come to the village and watch history unfold, “This is part of who you are, as a Canadian and as a person living in London. It’s this close to you, it’s in your backyard. This is Fanshawe Pioneer Village and it is not far from the center of London. When the re-enactors are here, there is something else to see and do.”
Fanshawe College President, Peter Devlin, says that there is a relationship between Fanshawe College and the Fanshawe Pioneer Village, “This region has such a rich, vibrant history and the skirmish at Fanshawe is a part of how Canada and Southern Ontario was defined.”
The battle took place this past Saturday afternoon and also takes place on Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Fanshawe Pioneer Village. Tickets cost $7.00 per person.
