The younger brother of King Charles III, Prince Andrew, has been deprived of his title.
Buckingham Palace’s statement on Thursday evening said King Charles III had begun formal proceedings to remove the style, titles and honors of Prince Andrew.
Now, Prince Andrew will be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
He has been living at Royal Lodge so far and the statement said that he has given formal notice to give up his lease.
“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him,” the statement added.
“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
Andrew continued to deny details of his connection to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, but a posthumous memoir by Virginia Giuffre stated that she had sex with Andrew as a teenager.
Virginia Giuffre was an American-Australian who accused child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and an activist who offered support to abuse victims and survivors.
She ended her life on her own in April this year, and the bereaved family of Giuffre told BBC Newsnight: “She is celebrating from the heavens right now, saying, ‘I did it.’ This normal girl from a normal family has taken down the prince.”
