As the holiday season approaches, the City of London is urging residents to think twice before gifting electric scooters to young children.
The city’s warning comes amid a surge in the popularity of e-scooters, often viewed as exciting and trendy gifts. But officials stress that the scooters are not toys and should be treated responsibly.
“I think there is a number of parents that do not realize that the age of 16 and below, you’re not allowed to drive a scooter. And I see many young people driving young scooters,” said Coun. Anna Hopkins.
City staff say they want to prevent accidents and promote the safe use of personal mobility devices this winter, and are encouraging Londoners to keep safety in mind before wrapping up an e-scooter as a holiday surprise.
