Canada is taking a bold leap by increasing its commitment to the European Space Agency by over $500 million, a tenfold jump over earlier contributions it had made.
The funding will be distributed over a period of three to five years and is designed to help develop Canadian made space technologies for civilian and defence applications.
The key areas of investment include satellite communications, earth observation, navigation and timing, space exploration, and space situational awareness.
Industry Minister Mélanie Joly called the increase “historic,” saying it would create a more robust industrial base and strengthen Canada’s strategic partnership with Europe.
