A child’s quick actions helped lead to a safe escape during an intimate partner violence incident in Sarnia early Thursday morning.
Police say the child ran to a neighbour’s home and called 9-1-1 just before 8 a.m.
Officers responded and found a woman and children outside with visible injuries, while the man, who barricaded himself in the home, refused to come out.
Sarnia police mobilized the Emergency Response Team, complete with K9 units and crisis negotiators, and used a mobile command post as the situation unfolded.
The man surrendered about two hours later, without further incident.
He faces a number of charges, including assault, assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement.
