Mark carney is preparing to visit China, his parliamentary secretary, MP Kody Blois claims that Carney would like to “recalibrate” Canadas relationship with the Chinese government for economic opportunities.
Blois claimed that there’s an opportunity to co-operate on agricultural and agri-food. When asked whether Canadians should expect results next week, the Liberal MP declined to comment.
“The trip next week is a continuation of that turning point in the relationship,” Said Blois
Blois also said “What I would say, and what Canadians should understand, is that we know the importance of what the Chinese market means from an economic perspective,”
This will be his first visit to China since 2017 and will be watched closely by the prairie provinces, which have called on carney to lift duties Canada imposed on Chinese made electric vehicles in 2024. in response, China put tariffs on canola, seafood and pork. Premier Doug ford is telling carney to stand firm on the tariffs.
