Fanshawe’s men’s and women’s basketball teams both won their game against Sheridan over the weekend.
Bill Carriere who is the Head Coach of the women’s team spoke about players to watch out for.
“I think the people know that our biggest target is Ashley Anderson, our second-year post player. She has improved tremendously.”
Carriere talks about the game that took place on Sunday;
“We didn’t get much of a test yesterday, but obviously it feels good. I like the fact that we executed well. We got to play everybody. So in those two regards, I feel pretty good about our squad right now.”
Carriere talks about his expectations for the rest of the season;
“Well, I mean, we have goals. My expectations are to continue to improve. We want to play our best basketball in Feb. and Mar. And our goals are to win a provincial championship for one.”
Layla Mackenzie, a guard for the women’s team who is averaging 15 points per game this season.
She talks about her hopes for the team going forward;
“I have high hopes. I think we could make it really far this season. I think we have a really good team group that works well together, so I hope for the rest of the season we work well and we can make it far.”
Mackenzie also talks about getting the first win of 2026;
“It felt great. Getting the first win of the season out of the way, especially having such a good team game, felt great for sure.”
Mackenzie also goes onto mention how she felt the team played and how she player as a player;
“ I think for myself I had a pretty solid game, contributing both defensively and offensively on the floor, and I think it was a great team win as well. I think everyone got on the board, everyone scored a basket, and everyone shared a lot of playing time, so it was definitely a nice team win when everyone gets to contribute something.”
The women’s team won their last three games in Dec. and won their first game to kick off Jan., to make a four game winning streak. Their next game is Wed. Jan. 14,
versus the Humber Hawks at Fanshawe College.
Da’marion Ennis, a guard for the men’s team talks about how he felt the men’s game went.
“ The first win of 2026 out of the way. Honestly, it felt great. Me and my team is just fantastic. I love just the chemistry, everything, the build up.”
He shares his thoughts and expectations for the rest of the season;
