The former Kent Brewery was demolished on Monday.
Over the weekend, firefighters responded to a blaze on Sunday inside the former Kent Brewery building for the second time in a span of three days.
Around 2:30 am, fire crews were dispatched to the scene; taking four fire engines and an aerial truck to extinguish the fire. The fire department did not believe the fires to be caused by criminal activity or arson.
Steve Calverley, president of New Rise Demolition says that they had been working on demolishing the building the week prior.
“We’re in the process of demolishing, excuse me, demolishing it the end of last week, and it sat over the weekend, and there’s two fires over the weekend. We mobilized back to site this morning just to complete the demolition.” he says.
The historic brewery, established 1859, was once a cornerstone of the region’s early industrial economy.
Over the decades, the building changed hands several times and eventually fell into disuse; becoming a familiar but deteriorating landmark.
